Pulses are major source of protein for vegetarian masses, having protein level upto 20-30per cent. Supplementation of cereals with pulses provides the best solution to alleviate protein malnutrition. Pulses help to sustain the soil fertility by givingbiological nitrogen in association with Rhizobium. For the last few years, the area under pulses has been decreasing due to low productivity. This may be due to several factors. Out of them, damage by insect pests is a major limiting factor which damages the crop from sowing to harvesting. Therefore, proper identification and management of these insect pests is very important. The insect pests attacking kharif moong, mash, soybean and arhar can be classified into two categories viz., sucking pests andleaf eating and pod damaging insect pests.
