Aonla (amla) is the only fruit recommended by ayurvedic system ofmedicine for a balanced diet and sound health. The fruit containsgallic acid which has antioxidant property. AONLA is very hardy, productive and can besuccessfully grown in variable agro-climateand soil conditions. The matured tree can toleratea temperature as high as 45 deg C as well as freezingtemperature. Thus it is not much influenced by hotwinds and frost. It is a good for commercial growingin the marginal soils and various kinds of degradedlands such as salt-affected soils, salines, dry andsemi-dry regions. Aonla is the only fruit to fill the gapof astringent food recommendedby ayurvedic system of medicinefor a balanced diet and soundhealth. The fruit contains achemical substance known asgallic acid (polyphenol) whichretards the oxidations of vitaminC, hence it has antioxidantproperty. Fruit is acrid, cooling,laxative and diuretic.
