KNOW YOUR SEEDING RATES

Increasing seeding rates above those used commercially can lead to higher crop yields for most dryland crops. According to trial results in South Australia, there are additional benefits in using higher seeding rates including improved weed competitiveness to reduce the risks of developing herbicide-resistant weeds and erosion in light soils. Before you increase seeding rates, however, consider the quality of grain you are going to produce. Higher seeding rates generally result in more uniform grainsize, even though the grain might be smaller.
