Ring opening polymerization (ROP) of cyclic esters continues to play a major role in modern polymer synthesis as materials derived from these polyesters have critical medical applications due to their bio-compatibility and biodegradability. Polymerization catalysts for the living ROP of e-caprolactone (CL) are typically based on metal alkoxides such as those derived from complexes of Al,~(2a-d)Sn,~(2d-h)Zn,~(2h,i)Ti,~(2j-m)B,~(2n)Ca,~(2o)La~(2p,q)Nd,~(2q)Sm,~(2h,q)Dy,~(2q)Yb,~(2q)Y,~(2c,q)Pr,~(2q)Eu,~(2q) and Gd.~(2q)
