BRUSSELS-The European Court of First Instance July 11 canceled a European Commission directive authorizing the use in the European Union of the herbicide paraquat(Sweden v.European Commis-sion,European Court of First Instance,No.T-229/04,7/11/07).The Commission published the directive in 2003(2003/112/EC)following a request by Zeneca(now As-traZeneca)and other paraquat producers to list the substance in Annex I of EU Directive 91/414/EEC Concerning the Marketing and Use of Plant Protection Products.
