Potato crisp manufacturer Tyrrells expands into Australia and Asia Pacific market

Following its purchase of Yarra Valley Snack Foods in August last year, the UK crisp manufacturer Tyrrells is now planning to expand further in Australia through the construction of a new factory in Melbourne, Victoria. Once complete, the new facility will produce and serve the whole of the Asian market, negating the need for Asian exports to be manufactured in the UK. The decision to manufacture closer to the market it serves comes down to the bulky nature of the product; crisp packets are expensive to ship relative to their value. Crisps are also fragile so reducing shipping means more of the product will reach markets in good condition.
