FDA declines again to move on BPA / Cites need for more studies / South American countries take action

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA, Washington, DC; www.fda.gov) on 30 March again declined to take action against bisphenol A (BPA). Health advocates expressed disappointment with what they termed the government watchdog's continued foot dragging, especially in view of the recent decision by soup maker Campbell to phase out epoxy resin can liners containing the chemical. The American Chemistry Council (ACS, Washington, DC; www.acs.org) commented that "we have and will continue to rely on the experts at FDA to evaluate the safety of BPA."
