US plastic bags and film recycling rates higher than ever in 2006

New York-Plastic bags and film recycling increased significantly across the US in 2006,reaching a record high and validated a growing national recycling trend in the US,according to a study by the American Chemisty Council.The dramatic increase in recycling was in part driven by greater demand for recycled plastic and increased recycling of plastic grocery bags.An estimated 812 million lbs of post-consumer film(including plastic bags)was recovered in 2006,according to the 2006 National Post-Consumer Recycled Plastic Bags and Film Report conducted by Moore Recycling Associates,of Sonoma,California.This represented a 24% increase from 652,477,000 lbs recovered in 2005.
