Singapore-South Korea's petrochemicals industry faces a major shake-up as its manufacturers pushed for mergers and acquisitions as a way to tackle bigger Chinese rivals and brisk investment in the Middle East.LG Chem,the country's biggest chemicals maker,was set to absorb its affiliate LG Petrochemical effective November 1 to become the second-largest ethylene maker in South Korea,after Yeochon Naphtha Cracking Center which has a production capacity of producing 1.8 million mt/year of ethylene.
