'Curbs on import-for-export will realize better prices'

The new president of the United Planters' Association of Southern India (UPAST), E.B. Sethna has been involved in the tea plantation sector for over 40 summers and winters. He has twice been the Chairman of the Planters' Association of Tamilnadu and is on the UPASI Executive Committee since 1988. In an interview with Ajayan, he delves into the issues of the plantation sector and speaks about his plans for the association: Excerpts: Tea plantations in South India are still struggling to come out of the crisis that engulfed it five years ago. One can see the tale of misery on each and every planter's face, be it the small one or the large one. I wish to see the smiles back on their faces soon. Initiatives taken by the tea industry, Tea Board and the government to improve the quality and the attempt made by UPASI through the Golden Leaf India Awards should bring back glory to the South Indian tea industry. My vision is seeking India regain the number one position in exports which we had lost to Kenya, Sri Lanka and China over a period.
