Clinical Guidelines for stroke rehabilitation state that services should be organized to provide 'as much practice as possible' of therapy tasks in the first 6 months after stroke.1 However, finite resources mean that clinicians have limited time to spend with each patient. Consequently, researchers and clinicians continue to explore new ways to maximize the dose of therapy for each patient within existing staffing levels.The use of commercial gaming consoles in stroke rehabilitation settings is a relatively new therapy approach that has been embraced by clinicians.2 The potential advantage of using gaming consoles is that therapists are able to provide patients with an activity that is engaging, motivating, and encourages the patient to complete a large number of repetitions of goal directed movement. Furthermore, it may be possible for patients to use the gaming consoles independently or with limited supervision.
