The BQM-167 Skeeter is a sub-scale target drone being acquired by the US Air Force for its AFSAT (Air Force Subscale Target) requirement. In August 2002, the Air Force awarded a development contract for the drone to Composite Engineering to produce six Skeeters in 15 months with a production contract eventually totaling $200 million for 7-years of manufacture. The Air Force funded 330 Skeeters in FY04-FY13. In 2010, the US Navy selected the extended range BQM-177 (formerly BQM-167X) for its Sea-Skimming Subsonic Aerial target (SSAT) requirement with plans to conduct a 3-year engineering manufacturing development effort followed by a production phase with initial deliveries in 2017 and an annual production rate of about 45 aircraft. The BQM-167 has been exported to Taiwan and South Korea.
