(1) Overview of operations Lefarc tannery is located in Leon, about 10 km from the main city tannery cluster. The main production is for footwear leathers, manufactured from the wet blue to the finished state. The tannery consumes 1,800 hides per day as sides, employs 140 people, was established 18 years ago and has been on the present site for 12 years. Almost all of the wet blue (95%) used by Lefarc is tanned under contract by Curtec, being situated within the Leon tanning cluster. Lefarc is the majority shareholder in this company (47%) with two other partners. The input at Curtec is 1,500 bovine hides and 1,500 pigskins/day; it employs 50 people, and was established 11 years ago.
