Amendment to the Korean Design Protection Act Proposed

Timed with Korea's schedule to become a signatory to the 1999 Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Industrial Designs in 2012, an amendment to the Korean Design Protection Act ("the Design Act") has been proposed to introduce the so-called "Hague System" into the Korean design registration procedure. The amendment, if enacted, will also bring about other important changes to the design protection regime in Korea such as expanding the subject matter for design protection and the types of acceptable drawings required upon filing.
