Three recent rulings by the Hamburg Higher Regional Court (OLG) and the Munich Regional Court (LG) exempting YouTube from direct liability over infringing user-generated content and obligations to pay license fees for copyrighted music uploaded to its platform, have left attorneys split over whether the decisions strengthen YouTube, or benefit rights holders in the long-run, even as most agree that the long-running dispute is far from reaching its final conclusion despite the verdicts.
