Taiwan Backs Patent, Data Exclusivity Proposal in Effort to Join TPP

Taiwan's Cabinet approved a proposal Aug. 4 to add patent linkage and data exclusivity to the country's laws as part of its efforts to strive for membership in a pan-Pacific trade deal. The Taiwanese government's executive branch gave the green light to a proposal amending both the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act and the Patent Act. The revisions will soon be sent to the legislature for review in the next session, which starts in September.
