摘要

"Living longer brings many benefits. However, for many people, this gain in life years is not matched by a gain in years of healthy life. The way forward is to identify factors and variables which define healthy aging. We have evidence that lifestyle factors, including nutrition, substantially affect healthy aging and vitality. One opportunity is to build on new developments in nutrition science, such as the role of the gut microbiota or the genotype, which are emerging as important modulators of the impact that given (micro)nutrients have on the metabolism. We need to stimulate science around the understanding of interactions between the aging process, dietary intake and nutritional status. This methodology will allow targeted approaches in the prevention and risk reduction of non-communicable diseases, as well as treatment strategies. Evidence-based dietary strategies allow for optimal food solutions to prevent and treat malnutrition in the elderly, with measurable improvements of functional, cognitive and immune status, providing quality of life.
