This emergency gallery, designed to enhance rail-tunnel safety, Is a structure 1,700 m long and of inner diameter 3.5 m. The structure, driven alongside the existing tunnel, will be able to facilitate the evacuation of passengers in the event of an incident in the tunnel built more than 100 years ago. It is executed by means of an Earth Pressure Balance TBM. Several special design and construction measures were needed before starting tunnel driving.
