Service work, social theory, and collectivism: a reply to Brook

Paul Brook has written a mischievously intelligent critique of my analysis of the nature of customer-facing, or front line, service work and the prospects for unionization within the service economy (Brook, 2007). Brook's article is intelligent in the way that it draws out the implications of a purely structuralist Weberian approach to the analysis of contemporary service work. However, it is mischievous in the way that it inaccurately locates my work as being purely Weberian.
