"Our goal with this project was not to reinvent the Routemaster, but to focus on a bus's functionality and in particular on recalibrating the disparate elements of the bus interior into one cohesive internal environment. One of the ways that we did this was through the design of a new pattern of moquette, the tough woollen furnishing fabric traditionally used to upholster the scats of London's buses. Rather than a continuous, small, repeating pattern that could go on any piece of transport furniture, the pattern is specific to the scat, based on the contour lines that outline the form of a seated person."
