Building POGO

Forty-five years ago, I loved to fish from the inlets and jetties of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. On those shore-bound surf-casting expeditions, I often found myself gazing longingly at boats—fiberglass Makos and Aquasports, and the occasional wooden skiff, too—as they were speeding to productive fishing grounds beyond my reach. I did okay working the beaches, but I had to wait for fish to come to me; a boat, I thought, would vastly improve my chances.
