Over 30 years ago, digital cellular phones became commercially available and mass produced. These phones were enabled with GSM as the choice of technology, providing voice and data services over the air (OTA) with hand-held devices. With the advent of newer cellular and connectivity standards (e.g., CDMA, WCDMA, WiMAX and LTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi) improving the bandwidth efficiency and using different modulation schemes and different access technologies to provide improved performance, usage models of cellular phones have changed from simply calling and texting another person, to printing documents by directly sending them from your phone to your printer at home, to using live HD video transfers provided by use of commercial VoIP applications on cell phones using fast and wide coverage data networks like LTE.
