Since the amp5 period began in April last year, water authorities have been committed to improving water quality through heavy investment in water treatment upgrades. With a range of chemicals being used, it is vital that the health and safety risks are considered when specifying products to use for new water treatment systems. Pipework is integral to any water treatment system and it is crucial that the most appropriate product for the application is specified, including considering the substances being transported by the pipework system and the process that is used. There are many different chemicals that can be used in the treatment of water, ranging from hypochlorites for disinfection to 98% sulphuric acid, and selecting the wrong pipework material that does not cater for the particular substance being used can have far reaching consequences for the water treatment plant.
