National hire boat firm Black Prince has installed a new fleet in West London, the only one within holiday cruising distance of the capital. The new service is based at Willowtree Marina on the Grand Union's Paddington Arm, and will be offering six conventional Black Prince boats for the summer of 2011. If the venture takes off, there are plans to add four more boat next year. The company admits the venture is an experiment. Operating costs in the London area are higher than in the rest of the network, and all other London-based operators have closed down, most recently, the Lee Valley Boat Company at Broxbourne, which ceased hiring last year.
