SAD TIMES ON THE BASINGSTOKE CANAL

Twenty years ago I cruised the whole of the newly reopened Basingstoke Canal. This autumn, with three colleagues, I cruised to Lock 12 at the start of the Brookwood flight. This was as far as we could go as the remainder of the canal was closed. A short walk to the Deepcut Locks confirmed our worst fears: the Basingstoke is now the Basingjoke. What a disgrace!
