Basingstoke Canal volunteers battle to keep canal open

After one of the driest years on record, members of the Surrey & Hampshire Canal Society are battling to keep the Basingstoke Canal fit to open in the summer. The Basingstoke Canal Authority lowered the level in the 15-mile Hampshire summit pound, to enable bank protection work on West Hart Embankment, west of Crookham Wharf.
