The Bureau is directly or indirectly involved in the operation and maintenance of hundreds of miles of concrete-lined canals. Maintaining a watertight lining is a matter of importance because leakage from these canals results not only in loss of irrigation water but also may cause water logging of adjacent farm land or damage the canal embankment with other serious consequences.
