Birdswood's 80th birthday bash

The Friends of the Cromford Canal held a birthday party on 22nd November for Birdswood, its combined horse-drawn/electric trip-boat, exactly 80 years to the day after it was launched The event also doubled as a 'thank you' evening for FCC's many volunteers.Birdswood was built by W.J. Yarwood & Sons of Northwich in 1938 as an open day-boat for the LMS Railway; it was originally named Ross and used on railway interchange traffic on the Birmingham Canal Navigations. In 1955 it was renamed and fitted with a wooden living cabin for long-distance carrying by British Waterways.
