Israeli company Blue I Water Technologies, which provides advanced controllers and analysers for the water treatment market, launched its Smart LEA multi-parameter water analyser at Aquatech China, which has been specifically designed for smart water networks. Jacob Azran, the company's CEO, says that 'predictive analysis is driving smart city growth, so we took this concept into the water network.' He says that in order to further water quality management, more sensors are required, particularly at points within the distribution network and not just at the treatment point. However, he says, at many points in a network there may not be the power available to run a sensor, but a key advantage of the Smart LEA is that it runs on only 6V. 'That means we can put batteries in it that work for two years,' he explains, and the sensor monitors and transmits data on free chlorine, turbidity, oxidation reduction potential, pH, temperature, conductivity, flow and pressure. The data can then be used to control dosing pumps for example, he says, and if a problem is detected the sensor increases its measurements to once every minute.
