"School sanitation plays a central, but overlooked, role in learning. Schools exist to meet the needs of children. They have no other reason to exist," says Bobbie Louton, lead researcher of a report by Partners in Development, published in 2015 as part of a research study conducted for the Water Research Commission entitled Exploring issues around rural on-site school sanitation in South Africa. A total of 130 schools in KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and Eastern Cape were visited.
