Virchow's cellular pathology: 150th anniversary

In 1858 Rudolf Virchow published his text book “Die Cel-nlularpathologie in ihrer Begründung auf physiologische nund pathologische Gewebelehre”, which is one of the nmost important books in the history of medicine. It was nthe foundation stone and frst real scientifc paradigm nof pathology. The sculptor Abram Belskie, a native of nLondon and resident of Clostor, New Jersey, designed nthis medal displaying the portrait of Virchow and, on nthe reverse side, the famed pathologist at work. Encircl-ning the rim of the medal is Virchow’s great aphorism, n“Omnis cellula e cellula”, which he mentioned 1855 in nhis famous article “Cellular-Pathologie” in “Archiv der npathologischen Anatomie”.
