Shannon Faulkner and her successor, Nancy Mellette, got all the media attention. But in the end, it was an anonymous Virginia woman who tore down the barriers keeping women out of the Citadel and the Virginia Military Institute, the nation's two state-funded, all-male colleges. Unable to attend VMI because of her gender, the woman filed a complaint six years ago with the Bush administration. And last week, the walls came tumbling down, ending over a century of male exclusivity.
