A surprise package from outer space has landed amid the apartment buildings of Central Park West. New York's Hayden Planetarium, the latest and most spectacular in a series of radically retooled planetariums around the country, opens February 19. The dowdy old Hayden dome has been reincarnated as an 87-foot-diameter aluminum sphere floating in a glass cube: the Rose Center for Earth and Space at the American Museum of Natural History, a stunning new destination for star-gazing earthlings.
