Spudding plans off Australia

US SUPERMAJOR ExxonMobil plans to spud an ultra-deepwa-ter well later this year in the offshore Gippsland basin off Victoria, Australia. Australia's National Offshore Petroleum & Safety Environmental Management Authority (Nopsema) confirmed last week it was assessing a revision to an earlier environment plan submitted by ExxonMobil for exploration drilling in Vic/P70. That environment plan originally covered the unsuccessful Baldfish-1 and Hairtai-1 gas exploration wells drilled last year, with the new environment plan now covering a third well, Sculpin-1. Sculpin-1 would be drilled in a water depth of 2300 metres late in the second or early in the third quarter over a period of 60 to 65 days.
