On 7 February it was announced that quiet cars were to be introduced from 13 February as a three month trial on the Newcastle and Central Coast Line. The first and last carriages of all six and eight carriage trains and the last carriage of four carriage trains on the line will be designated 'quiet carriages', giving passengers the option to choose a quieter journey. Those using the designated quiet carriages will be asked to refrain from loud talking, playing loud music and using mobile phones. Feedback from passengers will be sought during the trial to judge its success.
