A drop-size/velocity correlation equation, based on energy balance, was examined with experimental data from three fan nozzles (XR8002, XR8001, and 800067) spraying water at 207 kPa. Simultaneous measurements of drop size and velocity were obtained using a Phase/Doppler Particle Analyzer (PDPA). Measurements were made at 4 cm directly below nozzle orifice, along the central axis of the nozzle. There was good agreement between the measured and predicted velocities. The maximum absolute deviation of the predicted velocities from the measured data was less than 5% for XR8002 and XR8001, and less than 7.5% for the 800067 nozzle.
