The low-pressure diecasting process (LPDC) is standard in European market, for producing high-quality aluminum cast wheels in economic large-scale production. The aim of the development project was to optimize the LPDC process, in order to produce cast wheels at a market-leading low price, in the future. The casting process was broken down into its various steps for detailed analysis. Different actions were tested on an experi mental casting machine, which was of the same design as the production machines. Solidification simulation, infra-red ther- mography thermal and pressure-sensors were used to analyze the process.
