INTRODUCTION OF THE PRIUS ASSEMBLY LINE

We set up a new assembly line for the Prius-the first volume-production hybrid car ever-using the New-CAL (New Concept Assembly Line) system which we developed specifically for this project. New-CAL is based on the 4 foundation provided by our existing Toyota New Assembly Line Concept system, but goes a step further. ln short, "Toyota New Assembly Line Concept" was designed to evolve eternally to adjust to the social environment and growth of the workers. Special features of "New-CAL", however, include improved conservation of energy and natural resources, and greater emphasis on giving workers motivation and a sense of accomplishment. In this article we summarize the Prius assembly line and introduce ways in which worker attitudes changed as result of the "New-CAL" system.
