Commentary by Donald Saxman: How long will Toyota delay introduction of lithium battery-powered Prius?

By now, anyone who reads the Japanese industrial daily Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun, or more likely the Wall Street Journal, or even checks the Internet, knows that Toyota Motor Corp. will postpone the introduction of the third generation Prius until the Spring of 2009. More significantly, this vehicle will not include the previously announced lithium-ion battery pack and one can assume that any performance using "just" an advanced nickel metal hydride battery will be somewhat less than originally anticipated.
