Attracted to Catholicism she was baptized in 1922 and taught for the Dominicans until 1932 when she was appointed a lecturer in pedagogy at Münster, a position she was almost immediately forced to resign, even though she was a Catholic, as a result of anti-Jewish legislation. Sarah Borden Sharkey's excellent study of Finite and Eternal Being, given its depth, leads her at one point to suggest that Stein may have worked her way out of some of her difficulty with the problem of individuation if she had relied more on Husserl. Sharkey writes, In investigation III of Logical Investigations Husserl presents a theory of parts and wholes that can be applied to Stein's theory in order to gain an understanding of the relation of individual and universal forms.
