Unique smokebox door pressed for'P2'

The front end of the new Gresley'P2' Pacific No. 2007 Prince of Wales is coming together with the creation of its distinctive 'half-moon' smokebox door. The Darlington-based project contracted South Devon Railway Engineering to use its powerful John Shaw press to form the dish shape from a spun tank end, followed by hand flanging to create the full radius. This will be one of the most prominent and distinctive element of the Mikado locomotive's 'face'.
