The fall in the oil price during 2015 and consequently the national income of several Gulf and Arab states has led to some of their ambitious plans for new railway construction being delayed or suspended. In Oman plans to build a railway to connect to the new Etihad Rail network in neighbouring United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been suspended.
