M Ship concept offers speed, stability and stealth

As first highlighted in the January 2005 issue of Warship Technology, as part of its ongoing examination of the potential benefits of innovative hullforms, the US Navy is examining a wide range of hullform concepts, the latest being the M-80, a demonstrator which is being built by super yacht builder Knight & Carver. The 80ft x 40ft M80 demonstrator is being built by Knight & Carver in partnership with M Ship Company, the originators of the M ship hull concept, under a $US6 million project that is due to be completed in October of this year. The project has attracted a great deal of attention, having been sanctioned by the US Navy's Office of Force Transformation (OFT) and having received high praise from the retiring director of the OFT, Vice Admiral Arthur Cebrowski, who recently visited Knight & Carver to review the progress of the project.
