Recent Graduates: On the Job

Three recent engineering graduates, now with our architecture and engineering firm, discovered within their first year of employment that the profession isn't as "cut-and-dry" as they were taught in college. Their experiences with some unexpected realities of the profession could shed light on unknowns and may dispel early on-the-job anxieties of future graduates. John James graduated six months ago from Southern Polytechnic State University and is now a mechanical engi-neer-in-training with our A/E firm. He said he finds it challenging to synthesize information gleaned from books and lectures into a useful body of knowledge.
