The most fundamental change we have seen is that fewer opportunities are on offer and a larger proportion of applicants are available for each. In these times, it is critical for the job hunter to understand that employers need clear, concise and relevant application documents, in order to understand the suitability of the application. Candidates should tailor their application specifically to the role mentioned, highlighting both their understanding of the role on offer and of the company. While this may mean a more significant time investment in applying for each role, it also allows for critical assessment of each possible job. The job seeker should be convinced that they can add value to the company advertising. This may lead to an applicant being more selective about applications, but the quality of each will be significantly higher.
