STUDY FINDINGS SHOW POTENTIAL FOR HEALTHCARE IMPROVEMENTS

David Hoey, Trinity Centre for Bioengineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, TCD, was recently awarded the Biomedical Research Medal 2008 for his research paper, The role of stress concentrations in the fatigue strength of a porous bone cement mantle. Sponsored by Georgia Tech Ireland, the award is made annually by Engineers Ireland. In this article, David and his co-author David Taylor provide an overview of his research project and its findings, which have the potential to facilitate improved healthcare.
