Jaguar Land Rover in South Africa has produced an all-electric version of its Defender model for use in game parks. The vehicle, developed with UK-based lithium-ion battery manufacturer Axeon, was designed to minimise noise and environmental pollution for drivers on safari. Axeon fitted the battery pack into the vehicle' s engine bay in place of a standard 2.4-litre diesel engine, rather than positioning it in the floor as is common with electric vehicles, in order to maintain ground clearance and wading height. The battery uses Axeon's battery management system, which monitors battery state, measuring and controlling key operational parameters.
