Unilever is expanding a pledge in the UK to help make its packaging reusable, recyclable or compostable-increasing opportunities for the use of refillable metal bottles. As reported by The Canmaker last year, Unilever, which owns brands such as Sure, Persil, Simple, Radox and Alberto Bal- sam, announced it would be supporting UK supermarket chain Asda's first sustaina-bility store in Leeds, which has refill stations for more than 30 household goods sold in a range of multi-use containers. Due to the popularity of the initiative, Unilever will now adopt the refillable format in selected Asda and Coop stores across the country. It will offer pre-filled stainless steel bottles of products that, once used, can be returned to the store to be refilled. These will be displayed alongside traditionally packaged goods to see if consumers make buying products in refillable packaging part of their everyday shopping habits.
