Ash Sakula describes its new Carnival Arts Centre (CAC) in Luton as 'strange, shambolic and magnificent'. Among the curious jumble of materials used to clad the centre, you'll find glued brickwork arranged to mimic 'soundwave' patterns, wire fencing that makes you think 'ad-hoc parking lot', bamboo cladding, aluminium with slanted standing seams and a wall which mimics Brancusi's Endless Column. Here, we present a snapshot of how each surface is created and how it reflects the DIY spirit of carnival.
