Philosophical and technical aspects of term “state” in technical practice

We find the term in many areas of human activity. Usually, an intuitive understanding of this term and the ways of its use can be expected. However, a more precise definition of the term state is necessary for the wider development of the state-oriented approach to modeling and consequently the possibility of automated processing. This article is a contribution to efforts to define such a definition, which would be sufficiently precise but also accessible to a sufficient number of interested parties to use a state-oriented approach in corporate practice. The paper provides a definition of basic concepts and explains how to understand the relevant definitions for both a continuous and a discrete environment.
